Santa Barbara Museum of Art
Downtown Santa Barbara · Santa Barbara, California
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is the largest art museum on the Central Coast, with a collection of approximately 27,000 works spanning ancient Mediterranean art through contemporary California artists. The permanent collection is particularly distinguished in twentieth-century American painting — with works by Georgia O'Keeffe, Edward Hopper, and the California modernists — and in Asian art, including a superb collection of Japanese screens. The museum's downtown location on State Street places it at the heart of Santa Barbara's civic and cultural life, and its programming consistently punches above its size with ambitious traveling exhibitions and a lively schedule of lectures and performances.
