Roswell Museum and Art Center

Downtown Roswell · Roswell, New Mexico

The Roswell Museum and Art Center is New Mexico's oldest art museum, with a wide-ranging collection of Southwestern and American art that includes the most significant holdings of work by Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth — the husband-and-wife painting duo who made the southeastern New Mexico landscape their defining subject. The museum's Robert H. Goddard Wing preserves the rockets, equipment, and papers of pioneering rocketry scientist Robert Goddard, who conducted his earliest experiments outside Roswell in the 1930s. The celebrated Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program, founded in 1967, is one of the most generous artist residencies in the United States and continues to produce a body of work that defines the museum's contemporary collection.
