Tamarind Institute
University of New Mexico · Albuquerque, New Mexico
The Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico is the world's foremost center for collaborative lithography, and its public gallery provides a rare opportunity to encounter fine prints produced through one of the most technically demanding and historically significant processes in the visual arts. Since its founding in 1960, Tamarind has trained master printers and collaborated with leading artists - including David Hockney, John Cage, and dozens of other major figures - to produce editions of extraordinary quality. The institute's Albuquerque gallery presents works from these collaborations, offering collectors and visitors an education in the art of the print and access to some of the finest contemporary lithography in the world.
