Chimayó Museum
El Potrero, Chimayó · Española, New Mexico
The Chimayó Museum celebrates the weaving traditions, folk art, and cultural heritage of the historic village of Chimayó — one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States and the spiritual heart of northern New Mexico's Hispano culture. Chimayó is famous for two things: the Santuario de Chimayó, a pilgrimage church that draws thousands of visitors on Good Friday, and its extraordinary weaving tradition, which has produced some of the finest Río Grande–style textiles in New Mexico for more than two centuries. The museum's collection documents both traditions and places them in the broader context of northern New Mexico's remarkable cultural continuity, from Spanish colonial settlement to the present day.
