Cosanti Foundation
Scottsdale · Scottsdale, Arizona
The Cosanti Foundation preserves and continues the visionary work of Italian-born architect Paolo Soleri (1919–2013), who settled in the Sonoran Desert and spent six decades creating a body of work that blurred the line between architecture, urban planning, and sculpture. The Cosanti studio complex in Scottsdale - hand-built by Soleri and his apprentices over many years - functions as both a working foundry and gallery, where the distinctive bronze and ceramic windbells synonymous with Soleri's aesthetic are still cast on site. Architectural drawings, scale models of his unrealized urban concepts, and documentation of Arcosanti - his experimental city under construction north of Phoenix since 1970 - round out a visit unlike any other in Arizona.
