San Antonio Museum of Art
Museum Reach · San Antonio, Texas
The San Antonio Museum of Art occupies a magnificent converted nineteenth-century brewery complex that is itself one of the finest examples of industrial adaptive reuse in Texas, housing an encyclopedic collection spanning 5,000 years of world art with a particular distinction in Latin American art - the largest collection of Latin American art in any United States museum. The Latin American holdings encompass pre-Columbian objects, Spanish Colonial painting and decorative arts, folk art, and twentieth-century modern and contemporary art from across the hemisphere, reflecting San Antonio's position as one of the most deeply bicultural cities in North America. The adjacent Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Latin American Art provides dedicated space for this extraordinary collection and makes SAMA one of the most important institutions in the world for the study and enjoyment of Latin American cultural heritage.
