Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West
Old Town Scottsdale · Scottsdale, Arizona
Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West opened in 2015 in a dramatic purpose-built facility in Old Town Scottsdale, offering 15,000 square feet of gallery space dedicated to exploring the art and history of the American West from the 19th century through the present day. Permanent galleries present paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and artifacts that trace the visual story of westward expansion, the natural landscape, and the diverse peoples — Indigenous, Hispanic, and Anglo-American — who shaped the region. Temporary exhibitions bring fresh perspectives and nationally significant artists throughout the year. Particularly strong on the period between 1865 and 1940, when the mythology and reality of the American West were first being negotiated in paint and bronze.
